What is the Four Streets Project and who are we trying to help?
- The Four Streets Project is a group of around 35 volunteers, made up of local residents of Chichester who work together to provide nightly support to the homeless, hungry and vulnerable of Chichester.
- Life is tough and there are many reasons why someone becomes homeless or hungry. We’re not linked to any political party or religious belief and we don’t ask questions or make judgements about what brings people to our door.
How do we help?
- We run a takeaway supper club on every night of the year.
- We provide vital survival equipment (clothing, sleeping bags, ground mats, toiletries etc)
- We listen to the people we meet and provide ‘common sense’ advice and support.
- We work closely with other local organisations who support the vulnerable, signposting people to services such as Stone Pillow Chichester Hub, St Joseph’s Hostel, HEART & the breakfast club run by St Pancras Church, and Chichester District Council.
Where and when does this take place?
- In the back garden area of St Paul’s Church (PO19 6FT) from 6.30 to 7pm every evening.
Three key facts about the Four Streets Project
- We provide around 5,500 evening meals each year.
- We have not missed a single night since we started in 2016.
- We are 100% voluntary; not a single penny of our resources is spent on salaries.
How can you help us?
- Donations and charitable grants are our only income. We can only help those in need with the support of the local public and businesses – we’ve had some fantastic support over the years. Thank you for every single donation!
- But Covid had a huge impact. Donated and discounted food has dwindled to a trickle, so financial support is even more important. Every pound makes a difference – are you able to help? To “donate” click the button at the top of this page.
- Or perhaps you would like to join our wonderful band of volunteers? We’d love to have you on the team, just send an email to: 4streetschichester@gmail.com
A little history
The Four Streets Project was founded by Donna Ockenden and her daughters, Caiti and Phoebe. Having moved to the centre of Chichester, in 2016, they soon felt compelled to help the people they saw sleeping in shop doorways. They thought of these people as their neighbours and initially provided food and bedding from their own home. It soon became clear that they couldn’t meet the need alone, so Donna as asked friends and neighbours to help. The Four Streets Project was born in January 2017 and three years later, in January 2020, became a registered charity.
